The law enforcement course, about 45 minutes in length, aims to train law enforcement on seizure recognition, correct response to seizures, and awareness of the unique needs of people with epilepsy who might be taken into police custody. Users who complete this course are eligible to receive a certificate of successful completion at the end.
The EMS course, about 60 minutes in length, describes a variety of seizures associated with epilepsy, seizures with other potential causes, appropriate EMS response on scene, and issues to be considered when determining whether or not further medical care is warranted. The EMS course is available in two versions. A CECBEMS- approved CE lesson will award 1.5 hours of continuing education credit upon successful completion. An EMS lesson is also available to EMS students, personnel, and other healthcare professionals who do not seek to earn continuing education credit; these users will receive a certificate of successful completion at the end.
The Epilepsy Foundation recognizes the growing need to provide information to a variety of First Responders about reacting to individuals with epilepsy and seizure-related calls. We hope that these courses help to strengthen your knowledge of seizures and epilepsy in order to make the most informed decisions in your respective field of work.
